Background of the Study
Digital platforms have revolutionized language use in Nigeria, giving rise to distinctive morphological patterns in online communication. This study explores how digital platforms—specifically blog posts and SMS language—affect Nigerian morphology. Blog posts tend to exhibit creative word formations, abbreviations, and neologisms that reflect a conscious engagement with language innovation (Chinedu, 2023), while SMS language is marked by brevity and a tendency towards morphological simplification to accommodate rapid texting (Ngozi, 2024). The comparative analysis of these two mediums provides a unique insight into the adaptive processes that shape language in the digital age. The study examines how morphological productivity is influenced by factors such as character limitations, audience engagement, and the informal nature of digital communication. By analyzing corpora of blog entries and SMS messages, the research documents the emergence of novel morphological forms and assesses their impact on standard language conventions (Tunde, 2025). This investigation not only contributes to theoretical linguistics but also informs language policy and digital communication strategies in Nigeria.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the transformative impact of digital platforms on language use, there is limited research on the morphological variations that arise in Nigerian digital communication, particularly when comparing blog posts and SMS language. Current studies have focused on lexical innovations, while morphological processes remain underexplored (Ijeoma, 2023). This gap in the literature hampers our understanding of how digital constraints and informal contexts drive morphological change. Without a systematic analysis of these variations, it is challenging to determine the long-term effects on language standardization and evolution. This study seeks to address these gaps by conducting a comparative analysis of morphological structures in blog posts and SMS messages, providing empirical evidence of digital influence on Nigerian morphology (Emeka, 2024).

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it investigates the impact of digital platforms on Nigerian morphology, providing insights into language evolution in online contexts. The comparative analysis of blog posts and SMS language offers a nuanced understanding of how digital media drives morphological change, informing educators, linguists, and policymakers on effective communication strategies in the digital era (Chinedu, 2023; Tunde, 2025).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to the comparative analysis of morphological structures in Nigerian blog posts and SMS language.
